The Iona Lounger was originally made out of a place of necessity.

After moving into my home, I had a much larger space to balance and wanted additional seating that could bring people together without taking over the room. I started with a much larger sofa similar in design, but the idea of creating a smaller, more intentional version quickly became an opportunity to explore what a truly comfortable low-profile chair could be.

I wanted to stay true to the low profile of the original sofa, but I also wanted the chair to rise to the challenge of being more than just an interesting-looking seat. It needed to be something you could actually settle into and enjoy for hours at a time. Because the Iona was less than a third the size of the sofa, I had a lot more freedom to experiment with different suspension systems, cushion fills, and seating heights in order to dial it in just right. Each version taught me something different about what I liked and what I didn't, and eventually I started to find what felt like the sweet spot between its proportions, support, and comfort.

I also made a point of living with each iteration before moving on to the next. I wanted to experience the chair the way someone else would—not just for a few minutes in the shop, but as something that becomes part of everyday life. That became especially important to me knowing that someone may eventually come across the Iona online, fall in love, and decide to make a significant investment without ever having the chance to sit in one beforehand.

As the chair continued to evolve, I started to see another opportunity in its smaller scale. Using less fabric made it much more approachable to experiment with upholstery, particularly patchwork and textile techniques that I've always found interesting in the world of fashion. What started as a simple project to solve a problem became a really enjoyable canvas for me to experiment with ideas from different disciplines while continuing to refine the foundation of the chair itself.

At its core, the Iona is meant to be a timeless, comfortable piece with a little more going on beneath the surface. The profile is low, the lines are clean, and the overall form is intentionally restrained. The character comes through in the things you might not notice right away—the joinery, the materials, the proportions, and the details that become more apparent the longer you spend time with it.

For me, that's where the Iona found its identity. It doesn't need to try too hard to be noticed. I wanted to make something that could quietly hold its place in a room, feel good to live with, and become more appreciated the closer you look.

After inquiry, I will get back to you with a pricing, estimated lead time and shipping costs based on your location.

Once confirmed, I’ll arrange payment of a 50% non refundable deposit before any work begins with the other 50% due upon completion. Progress update will be provided as well a long the way.
